Grim Daze (The Grim Chronicles Book 2) by D.R. Martin is an absolute delight of an adventure into the fantastical realm of Grimsland. This book would appear to be a continuation of the exploits of teenage wizard Howl, who has to deal with an infection

The characters, including the teasing Bertha, wise Grim, and resourceful Nola, make this book full of humor, adventure, and magical escapades. Everything is here, from Howl's infection scare to the strategic battles, in this plot fully packed with twists and turns that keep readers locked up from start to finish. It should be another enjoyable read for any young mind.

What I like most about this book is the humor and lighthearted moments that are put across the intense plot. The sibling rivalry between Howl and Bertha, say, has its playful moments; for example, the two talking about their power levels. Nola's ability of water manipulation and Grim's transformation are described imaginatively with wonder. These lighthearted moments of adventure make the book a delight to read.

One thing I dislike about this book is that some scenes—for example, minute war room discussions—are confusing and poorly followed. The scene where Grim and his team plan their next move over the magic ocean map is full of terms and jargon in strategy that confused me. If these sections were more straightforwardly written and with a little more context, it would be even easier to digest the narration. The book was exceptionally well edited and error-free.

The humor, adventure, and magical aspects make this novel quite fun to read. Some of the unclear moments in the plot and shifts of perspective do bring down the quality in some respects. The strengths shine through playful sibling rivalry and strategic thinking; all these make for a pleasing addition to the world of fantasy and made me give it a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. Because of this, I'd recommend this book to readers who would enjoy a light, sometimes humorous fantasy adventure.
