[Following is a volunteer review of "Toni the Superhero" by R.D. Base.]
Toni the Superhero by R.D. Base is an amazing children’s book, especially for readers who are still beginners in the act of reading. The book tells us about Toni, who is a superhero but primarily focused on his everyday life as a boy when he is not out there saving the world. The book is themed around being kind, helpful, and responsible. In this book, Toni is a little boy who is a superhero and who is actively involved with helping both at home and with other kids and having his own time. This book portrays Toni as a role model for other kids his age.
It is believed that young children learn faster with good and fancy pictures, and this book did justice to that. It has fancy pictures that can increase the magnitude of the storytelling experience, creativity, and imagination power of the kids. Knowing the target audience, the author used very simple sentences and language suitable for the kids to comprehend, and also his style of writing will help the younger reader grasp the key words better. I like the fact that the book portrayed a kid superhero. The portrayal will help the kids focus on being helpful rather than praying to possess some superpowers of their own.
While the book’s concept of a superhero is intriguing, it lacks the depth to explore the superhero character, which left me disappointed. The author could have at least stated many examples of Toni doing major superhero things to justify the title. However, one can say being helpful and kind, just like Toni, makes you a superhero.
The dislike state above didn’t affect my rating for this book; therefore, I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars because it has so many great lessons and promotes good values. I found no errors in the book; hence, it was exceptionally edited. I also recommend this book for kids and readers between the ages of 1 and 5 years.
