[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]
The book We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies is the debut work of a fantasy series by author Matthew Tysz. This amazing book is set in Voulhire, a fictional, magical, and prosperous country that provides the perfect environment for the story in the book.
This story follows Galen Bray, a young man who leaves the Lands of the Princes, his homeland destroyed by years of endless wars, and goes to Voulhire to inherit the fortunes of his great uncle (Onita). Galen comes to the town of Magnum Caelum in Voulhire and meets Rowan, his uncle's executor. With the support of Rowan, he begins with his great uncle’s forge and gradually tries to get used to this new way of life.
We also meet Eldus Alderman, the new lord of Hilport, a town that has suffered under the rule of the last two lords. And then there is King Wilhelm, who deals mercilessly with anyone he considers a threat to his reign, including his friends. As the story unfolds, dark secrets become exposed.
The book contains topics related to power, magic, loyalty, and conflict. It gives in-depth explanations of Voulhire's government, economy, and the fleeting winds of change, which, together, create a broadly detailed world that readers can explore. The author skilfully displays how culture works in Voulhire and how people make decisions regarding government and culture, making the story very relatable.
The character development truly stood out. The author has an interesting and authentic way of building and developing his characters, and the way the plot unfolds is particularly amazing. The inclusion of the map of Voulhire was a thoughtful touch by the author and made the story even more enjoyable.
Furthermore, there is nothing that came short for me in this story. It is also exceptionally well edited, as I found no grammatical errors in the book. For everything already discussed, I rate We Are Voulhire 5 out of 5 stars. Mature lovers of fantasy and supernatural adventures will greatly appreciate this book.
