Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies

We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is an epic fantasy that gives shape to the details of a kingdom standing at a threshold of change. The main characters include the mysterious Meldorath, the intelligent King Wilhelm, and the diligent Lord Eldus. The story is full of action: the invasion by Riva Rohavi and politics within the kingdom. The strength of this book is in how well it maps the motivations of the characters as well as the socio-political landscapes of the kingdom down to great detail.
I like how this book creates this dark atmosphere; it's immersive—you know, those scenes with Meldorath's dark magic—they really gave it this kind of foreboding, kind of dread feeling when I was reading. There were quite a few of those moments in this book, and I loved it.
Also, the moment Meldorath's powers were unleashed during the attack in Hillport—that was also one of my memorable moments. It showed the ability of the author to weave suspense and horror. Also, themes in the book like that of power, corruption, and survival give an extra dimension to the book. The book was exceptionally well edited and error-free.
Beyond all these, what caught my attention most was the attention to detail the author gave. From the whole world of Voulhire, down to each character, even to their life experiences and all, the author was very meticulous and detailed. To me, there is nothing to dislike about this book because I loved the pace, even at times when the author had to describe settings, and I could see the importance of all the descriptions to the storyline. So altogether, I enjoyed the book.
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars because it deserves it. This novel creates a dark and immersive atmosphere; the scenes of Meldorath's dark magic only increase with further dread and foreboding. The author is also talented at suspense and horror in unleashing Meldorath's powers during the attack upon Hillport. Fans of Brandon Sanderson and George R.R. Martin will also find the depth and detail in this story similarly intriguing.
