[Following is a volunteer review of "Soul Seeker" by Kaylin McFarren.]
Soul Seeker by Kaylin McFarren was one of the best books I have read in a while. An honest to goodness 4 out of 4 stars! First of all, the editing was spectacular! Either the writing was so impeccable that I didn't notice any errors or there were none... Honestly I would put my money on the impeccable writing!
It has been a hot minute since I was so fully engulfed in a book and could see it like a movie in my brain. There were enough details without being overwhelming and monotonous. The action, drama, romance, and suspense kept me enthralled throughout the entire story.
The Soul Keeper is split into two parts. Part 1 starts out by introducing readers to the demon Crighton and takes us through his journey with one of his most memorable human families. This is where readers get their first taste of Crighton's powers and what he may be capable of. He mentally torments a fire captain and a handful of police officers and you can almost feel their anguish as if you are living through it yourself. Trigger warning: there is some violence against children. It isn't horribly graphic, but if you are super sensitive to that kind of thing, then maybe this isn't the right book for you.
Part 2 takes us back to Hell with Crighton and the journey really begins from there. Crighton was raised to be Lucifer's best soul hunter, but that's not all Crighton is. From here readers embark on an action packed journey through Hell and its demon inhabitants, meetings between angels and demons on Earth, mysterious scientists who seek to understand and eventually overcome said angels and demons, and so much more. I can't even begin to summarize much more without potential spoilers.
Let me wrap this up by saying this: if you have extremely strict religious views, probably not the best choice for you. If you are more open minded or curious and want to go on an incredible journey through reading, then this is definitely for you! I thoroughly enjoyed Soul Seekers and look forward to exploring more of Kaylin's worlds.
