Demon Freaks by J.R.R. (Jim) Hardison is a humorous story that will keep the reader laughing virtually the entire time. The story follows Ron and Bing Slaughter, who study for their SAT exam after their history teacher, Mr. Brom, schedules it for the next day. Their goal is to attend college and build a better future for themselves, as their parents state scares them. To pass the exam, they studied with their bandmates, the "Ephits" (Ron, Bing, Meat, and Kaitlyn), in Meat's cabin in the woods. With the sudden lightning that struck, they saw Mr. Brom with a sharp dagger, as he had been possessed by it, which swiftly transferred to Meat. When he grasped the dagger, they realized something had to be done, as picking the sword had already alerted the "Servants of Darkness" of its whereabouts. Now it is up to them to save Meat and Kaitlyn from the golfing association's ritual of sacrificing friends to summon a demon.

The author did get me with the title. I never would have been taught to laugh so much in a book with a skull on the cover page. Demon Freaks is very entertaining, and the plot is very engaging. An amazing young adult novel and one beautiful thing about this book is that it can be read by more people, especially because of the humor, as it appeals to everyone. I love the structure of the book and the roles of the characters. A very quick story I didn't put down immediately. I picked it up as the author's writing style got me engrossed all through. The pacing of the book is fast, but I like it, though I didn't expect a slow pace with so many actions and drama. The characters are charming and relatable, and the reader may easily relate to them.

Writing in the third-person narrative makes it easy to flow with significant discussions. The book is well-written, and the editing is professional; I saw no errors. But I didn't appreciate how many obscene terms were used; this is a young adult narrative; therefore, the author should have used some other exclamation words or kept them to a minimum. I appreciate the progression of the write-up. Amazing concept and a must-read for fans of comic fiction stories, including an adventure into the magical realm. This book had a wonderful blend of horror and comedy, with a strong emotional depth. I like that each friend has a lively personality, as the author did a good job of describing them. I am amazed at the friendship bond between the friends and the loyalty displayed by the Slaughter brothers. I will give this book a 5 out of 5-star rating, and I will thank the author for making this enjoyable for me.
