“Unyielding Destiny” by Spiros Gratsias is a mob story. It is centered around two main characters, Frank Morris and Scott Easten. Through the story, we travel through the characters’ lives from 1930 to 1978. Frank lost both his parents when he was a kid, and the mafia head, Don Cabineri, adopted him as his own son. Later on, Frank joined the army to fight in the Korean War. Scott’s father, Roy Easten, died saving Frank during the Korean War, and Frank had always wondered why a great man like Roy would sacrifice his life for him. Years pass by, and after leaving the army, Frank takes on his role as a mobster, helping out his father in ruling the mobster world. But destiny has other plans. Years later, Frank meets Scott (Roy Easten’s son), who works as an Assistant District Attorney. He is a part of the team probing into New York organized crime and the mafia, working to dismantle the very empire Frank helps control. What does destiny have in store for them?

The narration is from a third-person point of view, and each chapter specifies the current year and place as the title. The author also provides a detailed backstory of the characters, making it easier to understand their emotions and motives. Even though Frank is a mobster, his character is depicted as a person with honor who takes good care of his family and friends. Thus, he feels obligated to manage his father’s empire as well. Scott, on the other hand, is inspired by his father’s bravery and strives to provide justice and peace. The story also includes important historical events, like the assassination of President Kennedy and Neil Armstrong's moon landing to show the time period the characters are living in. These details make the story feel more real.

Since this is a mobster story, there is a lot of profanity and a few gore scenes, so reader discretion is advised for those who are sensitive to this content. The book is professionally edited, as I only found a single error. Even though the timeline is clearly mentioned at the start of each chapter, I found myself a little confused by the jumps between different time periods, which made me re-read some parts. This wasn't a problem with the story, just something that needed more attention while reading. Overall, there is nothing I dislike about this book, so I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. The timeline jumps weren’t distracting enough to reduce a star. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good mobster story.

What an interesting storyline. The mobster and the district attorney who both make honor a part of their lives. Their friendship and past history together must complicate things as their chosen professions are in direct conflict. The references to significant political events and scientific breakthroughs during this time period from 1930-1978 will add nostalgia to my reading experience. I can see myself getting lost in this story. Thank you for this informative review. Congratulations to the author, Spiros Gratsias, for writing a great story.

I like this story based on this summary that revolves around a good-bad man. It is good to know that the story is made relatable with references to real-life events that give readers an idea of the timeline. Thank you for your informative yet crisp review. You always manage to capture the gist well in a few words. Thanks @Anu Anand
