This is a riveting story of survival and adventure, with the extensive, unpredictable ocean forming the backdrop. The protagonist, Ḷainjin, treads the most dangerous waters, fighting the forces of nature and his physical limitations. The whole path he threads is dotted with the fury of nature, the continuous doldrums, and the stormy gusts of wind, while his resourcefulness in collecting rainwater and fishing keeps him alive. The rhythm of the sea and the never-say-die spirit of the protagonist move in perfect tandem throughout this most compelling read about endurance and the raw power of nature.

What really fascinates me about Man Shark is the manner in which it portrays adventure and survival, particularly through the character of Ḷainjin. There was this one occasion when he was fighting his way upstream against a strong storm while maneuvering his proa.

That he was able to maneuver his boat against all odds brought into focus the raw, thrilling essence of survival. I feel every gust of wind and wave; it is really inspiring—the determination and resourcefulness against nature's fury make for a captivating read.

I think that is one event that could bear a little more concise storytelling: the long sequence of Ḷainjin battling the doldrums. It effectively conveys monotony and struggle, but it could be tighter to keep the momentum of the story and not lose as many readers. Overall, I do not dislike anything about this book.

Gerald Knight’s book is an exciting and very well-thrilling depiction of one's adventure and survival. Some parts, especially when Ḷainjin fights against the elements at the time of the storm, are really thrilling and literally place you in the midst of it all. I rated this book 5 out of 5 stars simply because it surpasses most in describing the raw power of nature combined with its leading man's strength, hence making the tale exciting to read for any enthusiast of adventure. This book was exceptionally well edited and free from errors.
