Superhighway by Alex Fayman was a joy to read. Fayman wrote about a super power that I hadn’t seen utilized in any media before this. Exploring a new super power can be a treat, or it can be cringe inducing, and fortunately for the readers of Superhighway, it was the former. This book kept me guessing about what would happen next, and I poured through it, loving the ride.

We meet Alexander Fine in the orphanage that he has lived in his whole life. He tells us of the matron of the orphanage, Ms. Jenkins, and how she has always cared for him. Alex recounts for us his time spent in two different foster homes, each lasting more than a year before he was inevitably dropped back off at the orphanage. Despondent from abandonment twice now, he made a noticeable effort to dissuade families from taking him in. Ms. Jenkins eventually stopped sending Alex to meet the prospective families; she was internally relieved that he would be sticking around long term.

We skip forward in time: Alex is now 18, and an assistant to Ms. Jenkins at the orphanage. The orphanage got a computer lab, where Alex discovered his superpower. He was able to travel using the superhighway, a network connecting all places with computers. The only noticeable cost of this travel was the immense hunger upon arrival at his destination. Follow Alex as he wages financial war on mobsters in Amsterdam, meets several potential love interests, and learns of his true origins. Having finished the book I know I’m going to need to read the sequel right away to find out what happens next.

While I did thoroughly enjoy this novel, there were some issues I had with the book. The dialogue sometimes felt out of place for the characters in the moment, and the sex scenes didn’t always seem plausible. I only found two errors in the book and they were very minor, and did not detract from my enjoyment of the book. The biggest issue I had with this book was the main character’s ever shifting infatuation with whichever girl was in front of him at the time, but I had to reconcile that the main character is an 18-year-old man that is just now experiencing the world on his own for the first time.

With all of that having been said, I give Superhighway by Fayman 4 out of 4 stars. I do think that the book was professionally edited. As noted prior, there were two minor spelling mistakes in the book, but as they didn’t detract from my experience I am still more than happy to give the book this high rating.

Superhighway sounds intriguing! The ability to travel through the internet (bypassing security and passwords) is a unique plot! Your review makes me want to read the book, particularly due to your comment, "This book kept me guessing about what would happen next, and I poured through it, loving the ride."

A superpower we haven't seen before? Awesome! And thanks for the insightful review. It gave me a great idea of what this book is all about.
You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book.
