The book "Appetite for Risk" by Robert R. Abbott is a work of adventure ever in search of peril and subsequent survival by the author, who detailed these events in his book. By presenting a number of episodes from his life, the author looks at the phenomenon of risk-taking and reflects on why certain people, such as Abbott himself, step into risky situations. He writes of many dangerous meetings with armed criminals and other close calls.

Among the numerous scenes that were potentially interesting, I found that the author found a beat-up WWII-style Jeep and immediately brooded over the car. The Jeep was fitted with a Mercury V4 engine. There's a key moment when a car crashes into the beloved Jeep and there's a minor accident (at the post office). The story is a combination of adventure and reminiscences that accurately and, possibly, wistfully replicate the writer’s lucky existence in Hawaii. I have found that this book also carries something for those who are devoted to marine biology, spiritual evolution, and love. The author details his passage from working in fisheries to fighting pollution of aquatic life and dealing with personal challenges like video game addiction.

But the book also ventures further than an account of dangerous escapades to consider psychological and genetic theories of risk, positing that some people are biologically and culturally primed to seek risk. What I like about the book is how Abbott super connects thrilling stories to thoughtful reflection. In addition, his memoir is about why people take such risks. The author writes about Cynthia and his family's ups and downs.

The writing is engaging, and the book's editing is flawless. Overall, it’s an honest and reflective life story that goes through the times and changes of life. Therefore, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. This book was most attractive to me, and I also did not find any dislikes in it. I recommend this book by my side to anyone who is an adventure enthusiast, risk taker, psychology buff, memoir read, or personal growth enthusiast.
