[Following is a volunteer review of "Social Skills Success for Young Adults" by Dallas Brennan.]
Have you ever felt nervous about going to a social event? Is it hard for you to start a conversation with new people? Do you sometimes feel like others don't get what you're trying to say? Do you often think too much about what you said after a conversation? If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, then this book is definitely for you.
"Social Skills Success for Young Adults" by Dallas Brennan is an effective book for people struggling with communication, anxiety, networking, self-compassion, finding a balance between online and offline life, and so on. This book covers many topics, like social anxiety disorder, digital communication, covering workplace conflicts, emails, social media presence, and more. In this book, the author reminds us that there is no quick fix or magic pill to solve our problems. It is a step-by-step process with patience and self-care. Thus, the author aims to help people foster a deeper understanding of themselves and their triggers.
Each chapter in this book is precise and filled with warmth. The author reminds us that we are not alone on this journey and also informs us that we need to apply what we learned through this book in our lives rather than looking at it like a fact and moving on to the next one. I applied this strategy and found the engaging exercises and key lessons to be very helpful. What resonated with me the most was the topic ‘Identifying and communicating your boundaries’. I didn’t realize how important setting boundaries was, and until now, I thought it was something to feel guilty about. I learned about how important self-compassion and kindness are.
Additionally, the author also shares tips on how to become a LinkedIn networking master, which is a very important step in career advancement. And also shares real-life examples of those who have faced or suffered from social anxiety, like Emma Watson, the “Harry Potter” star who became famous as Hermione Granger, and Lady Gaga, a famous singer and actress.
Overall, the book was a great help with understanding things in a new light. I rate it 5 out of 5. There's nothing I dislike about this book, and the book is professionally edited. This book is a must-read for people struggling with networking, which is a must in today's advancing world. I also recommend this book to introverts, job seekers, college students, and new professionals.
