[Following is a volunteer review of "Will You Talk to Me?" by Margie Carstens.]
Will You Talk To Me?: A Story of the Hummingbird and His Wisdom by Margie Carstens is an amazing children's book. I found no errors while reading it, and it was so tastefully done. First, the illustrations were gorgeous, and I enjoyed the style the author chose for the work. The colors were bright and vivid, which made the story captivating. Second, I loved the message in this story.
This short read talks about all the things that make someone different. In this case, it was all the things that made the hummingbird different from all the large, stronger birds that it first compared itself to. This is a great correlation for kids coming into their own and learning that everyone else is different. It teaches them to see the differences of others but not to see those differences and compare them to themselves. There are important lessons for young kids in these pages. Margie Carstens does a fine job at weaving in lessons to be learned using animals as her deliverers.
Self-esteem and confidence are important things to nurture in kids, and this story helps build those things using lovable memorable characters.
This is a precious read I would recommend to any parent. Either as a buddy read with their child or a book to gift their children. From the lovely pictures to the hidden meaning behind the hummingbird's wisdom. There is nothing I don’t love about this book. For all these reasons I mentioned, I give this book a five out of five. This story will make a great addition to any child's bookshelf.
I know my younger nieces and nephews will adore this read, and I will enjoy reading it to them. It is a story whose lesson won’t ever get old. Learning to love yourself for exactly who you are is a timeless lesson.
