"Survive! Marooned on Planet Tau Ceti g" by Charles Graham is a story about survival on a strange planet. "Copernicus" was a space exploration ship designed to take crew members of the United Earth Space Force to space. Unfortunately, the ship was hit by meteor showers and crashed. Only seven crew members survived the crash. The survivors were Chris Elliot, Ron Layman, Jay Johnson, Dr. Holly Rhodes, Sandy Brooks, Miranda Stevens, and Caitlyn Clayton Carver, the ship's executive officer. Their situation was so dire that it would take over 12 years for their distress signal to reach Earth. They had to find a way to survive on a strange planet with all kinds of strange creatures. Were their fates sealed to live and die on the strange planet?

Even though this book was set in the future, it did not overlook the present-day realities of humans’ ability to adapt and survive. If you've ever survived a plane crash, possibly in a place you weren't familiar with, you would relate to the emotional trauma these survivors were dealing with. I could see the fear, despair, and frustration as they tried to come to terms with the reality that they could be on that planet and no one would rescue them. I also liked Chris's faith and hope in the face of adversity. He was so positive that Caitlyn had to relinquish her authority and make him their interim leader on that planet.

While the story was about how these seven crew members tried to survive on an unknown planet, the author did not waste the opportunity to infuse humor into the narrative. When Chris was asked how he got to join the United Earth Space Force, he jokingly said, "... I was forced to join or go to jail for having an inappropriate relationship with the president's underage daughter." Reading those lines cracked me up.

While the book was great, I felt the author was indecisive about how to develop the romantic plotline of the story. There were opportunities to explore the romance growing between Chris and Caitlyn, but the author missed them. Even the romantic relationship between Jay and Sandy was also not adequately explored. Considering the book's primary genre, I'd give the author the benefit of the doubt. I'd only hope that this aspect was better explored in the next instalment.

Apart from the minor issue of the author not exploring the romance plotline well, there is nothing to dislike about the book. The editing is exceptional, as there are no noticeable grammar or spelling issues. I rate this book a deserving 5 out of 5. If you enjoy space-centered narratives, this is the book for you.

It has happened to me when I was much younger. I followed some friends to an unknown forest and found myself lost. It took a whole day before I was rescued. I can understand what these guys went through in this book.

I enjoyed reading this well-written review. I am happy that the author highlighted "the humans' ability to adapt and survive". As we become used to the comforts of technology, we must not lose the ability to live without those comforts. In response to this need we must try to learn and preserve the survival skills of our ancestors. These could at any time come in handy; for instance if we were to be victims of a war or survive a crash on another planet. The suspense in this story will keep me enthralled. Congratulations to the author, Charles P. Graham, for earning a 5-star rating from you.
