Superhighway by Alex Fayman is ridiculously hard to put down once you start reading it. The main character Alex Fine is exceptionally relatable both before and after he realizes his superpower. I found myself feeling for him when he describes his life and his desire to live permanently at the orphanage he grew up in instead of feeling rented out to different foster families. As he realizes he can travel anywhere he can find a picture of online by unplugging the network cable to the computer and holding on tightly I was intrigued and couldn't wait to find out what happens next. Alex becomes a modern day Robin Hood of sorts when he learns to memorize databases in transit and starts stealing from wealthy criminals to fund his life of travel while also donating money to those he feels deserve more than life has given them. I almost envied his new abilities as he learned how to use them, and could relate to some of the mistakes he made along the way.
I loved how relatable Alex was throughout the book and how easy it was to get sucked into the story. I would sit down to read a chapter or two and find myself getting up for more coffee 14 chapters later. The ability Alex Fayman has to hook the reader is impressive. Not many authors can create that kind of connection to a book, especially not new authors as young as him.
The only thing I didn't like about the book, had absolutely nothing to do with the writing. I just wasn't a huge fan of some of the ways Alex behaved once he got used to traveling through the internet. Once again, that says a lot about Alex Fayman and his ability to write so well readers get mad at a character for how they behave.
Even my one complaint about the book is actually a compliment to the author.
Readers that aren't usually fans of young adult science fiction types of books should give Superhighway a chance as it is well written and keeps the reader intrigued throughout. It's the first book in a trilogy, and I can not wait to start reading book two.
I have never read anything remotely like Superhighway and love that Alex Fayman has created a book so uniquely his own. Reading it doesn't remind me of anything I've ever read before, and because of that, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.
