[Following is a volunteer review of "Play Golf Better Faster: The Little Golf Bag Book" by Kalliope Barlis.]
In "Play Golf Better Faster: The Little Golf Bag," Kalliope Barlis has concretely stuffed all the essentials for a complete golfing practice in an easy-to-carry bag. Barlis' writing will hook you into reading through a remarkably concise and clear style, with insightful illustrations that help readers get through the book.
One of the best things about this book is the emphasis on fundamentals. Barlis repeated over and over again how important it was to get the little things right: grip, stance, swing mechanics. The author did an excellent job making minimal steps and drills so that a reader can easily achieve one key action and transfer it to a score or become consistent. The advice is all to the point; you can easily reference and apply that to your game.
"Practicing at Home" is my favorite chapter. This established the "Gold Formula," which is quoted to be the best and most potent practice technique that goes with physical drills and mental exercises. Techniques include "mind techniques," "aerial view on the internet," and "the hypnogogic state." These kinds of techniques will sharpen the concentration and visualization of golfers and, thus, in turn, the overall performance of golf.
Although the book is very informative, one drawback could be that it needs to go into more detail about more specific shots, like chipping and putting. However, since it focuses on the fundamentals, it builds a strong foundation for any type of golfer.
The editing is flawless in this book. There were no grammar and spelling mistakes; hence, the reading was smooth and free of typos. There is only a single instance of strong profanity throughout the book and it does not affect the book's actual content.
Overall, "Play Golf Better Faster: The Little Golf Bag" is a book that can benefit anyone willing to be better at golf. I rate it a solid 5 out of 5 stars because I couldn't find any reason to deduct a star, and this book concisely and pragmatically addresses the issue.
It is the perfect book for golfers of any level. If you are a beginner and think you never can get the essentials just right or a pro looking to fine-tune your skills, then "Play Golf Better Faster" is the book to be read, full of useful points and practical advice.
