”Dumb” Orphans is a trilogy of books following a group of kids, the Bandu bunch, who were born and raised in South Africa and their journey. By diving into the HIV/AIDS epidemic that caused their orphan status to adults taking advantage of the kids, these stories cover some difficult stories in a digestible and less morbid way.

I absolutely loved all three books of this trilogy. It displays how power over others can corrupt, the final product of perseverance, and gives an amazing message that even a “dumb” orphan can cause change. It was a very motivational book. The style of writing was extremely digestible by using smaller words and less philosophical descriptions which matches the young children’s perspective. It was very enjoyable.

I honestly have no negative things to say about this book. This was an absolute joy to read. It is well-edited and perfectly paced. It was lighthearted enough that I didn't have a hard time reading about their hardships because it wasn't as graphic as other books that are written about epidemics and other hard topics like power abuse. This is a fantastic book to start introducing harder topics to people such as teenagers and kids.

I give this book a sparkling 5 out of 5 stars. It was an absolute joy to read.

This is a fantastic book to start introducing harder topics to people such as teenagers and kids. It is also a great choice for those who wish to learn about the hardships of others who might have hard times reading more graphic books, especially the hardships that aren't talked about such as the hardships of those in South Africa. I would recommend this book to adults, parents, and teenagers. This is a great way to talk about hard topics in a way that is digestible and more entertaining than reading a textbook-like nonfiction book.
