From a tension and suspense approach, I felt interested in reading "The Kovalenko Secret" by Philip L. Rettew. The story hooked me. Colonel Kovalenko, I imagined myself feeling his anxiety and urgency while reading the book. It was these scenes in the confessional that were the most powerful. I knew his secrets hung heavy around his neck like a burden. This got me thinking about what moral dilemmas we have when we possess important or (dangerous) information.

I have remembered. Can you remember that moment when you have that big meeting coming up and your heart starts pounding? That is how Kovalenko felt when he was attempting to figure out whether to trust his superiors or not. It’s like being in a plight, one in which you are unsure whether to leap over or step back.

The espionage theme added to the thrill. As Kovalenko moves in the world of political intrigue and the risks inherent in action, I can feel the adrenaline. But the ingenious use of technology, such as the special cellphone, keeps me wide awake. I want to see what will happen and how they will react to what's happening.

The book also made me think more extensively on other issues. It was also human, of course: struggles with loyalty and friendship. I imagined what it would feel like to deal with your choices and have to live with the results. It got me thinking about how war and conflict impact people personally and with their relationships. "The Kovalenko Secret" was exciting and thought-provoking. I left feeling grateful for the intricacies of human things and for the hard roads we all have to walk through in life. Due to this, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

If you like political thrillers, espionage, moral dilemmas, and complex character development, more than likely you’ll like this book, and if you like military and intelligence narratives, you’ll find something of interest within its pages. I have not found any dislikes in this book. The book is excellently edited. It has no grammar errors.
