Review of Who Will Accompany You?
[Following is a volunteer review of "Who Will Accompany You?" by Meg Stafford, Kate Stafford, Gale Stafford.]
Who Will Accompany You? is an aptly titled book about the travels of a mother and her two daughters. Written by Meg Stafford, Gale Stafford, and Kate Stafford, they share their travel experiences in Nepal, Bhutan, and Columbia. Their journeys were not only enthralling to read about but also captivating. They transported me to the various locations they were in.
As already mentioned, this book is about travel, but it is also about bonding, communication, purpose, and dreams. Meg and her daughters, through their love of travel, share a bond so great that it transcends continents. Meg’s support of her daughters’ decisions made this a wholesome book that taught me some lessons about healthy parenting dynamics.
In the preface, Meg mentioned she wanted readers to see themselves in the story, and I did. This book moved me to want to travel and expand my life. I love meeting new people and having new experiences. Reading about Meg and her children exploring different parts of the world and living life to the fullest, in a way, made me live vicariously through them!
What I loved the most about this book was how I could hear Meg in both Gale and Kate. How they made decisions, what motivated those decisions, and their thirst for travel. Meg’s admirable parenting is something to learn from. Even though her daughters took different career paths, you could see their mother’s influence on their decisions. They had an adventurous spirit, curious minds, and a hunger to learn more about different cultures.
I also liked how differently the book is written. Meg’s life story comes at the end as a sort of explanation to the woman who inspired her daughters to travel. She did not draw too much attention to herself; this book was about travel and focused on travel. Indeed, it stayed true to the title, “Who Will Accompany You?”
I was also very interested in both Kate and Gale’s journeys. Kate, at such a young age, made a decision that ultimately set her on a path to study something she had always been interested in. Gale, also at a young age, risked her life for the greater good and protected people in the process. This was a sign of courage and selflessness. All these qualities can be observed in Meg as the source. I have a newfound desire to pack my bags and also travel the world after reading this book.
Overall, I learned a lot from this book. I learned how to conduct yourself as a tourist in a foreign country, what to prioritize when traveling, and your purpose for travel. There is nothing negative that I can mention about this book; I loved every bit of it. I did not note any errors because it was exceptionally well-edited and deserves a whooping five out of five stars.
This was a beautiful book that I would recommend to mothers and upcoming mothers who would want to find ways to bond with their children. I would also recommend it to readers who enjoy adventure-themed novels, as well as lovers of nonfiction. This book has one or two instances of non-borderline profanity and subtle themes of war and violence at some point. Because of this, I would only recommend it to a more mature audience.
