[Following is a volunteer review of "Toni the Superhero" by R.D. Base.]
Toni the Superhero by R.D. Base was a fun and simple children’s book intended to help young kids learn to read. It was a short and sweet story, making me and my young niece smile the entire time! I rate this cute book a perfect 5 out of 5.
Something I admired about the book was how many different diverse hobbies Toni liked! There was a hobby in there for every child to relate to, from singing and dancing to reading or rescuing animals. I read this with my four-year-old niece, Harper, and she squealed when she saw Toni with a little gray cat because she adores kitties! Because of this helpful story, my niece learned how to read “rescuing animals,” and I am so proud of her.
The illustrations done by Debbie Hefke were vibrant and eye-catching. The bright colors are captivating and seem to jump right off the page, aiding the words to help children learn what certain words look like. My niece enjoyed the colorful illustrations of food the most, even though they were vegetables!
I didn’t find any spelling or grammar mistakes in this book, probably because there weren’t many words to proofread. The font used was clear and easy to read, yet still more fun than the traditional Times New Roman or Arial fonts. I didn’t find a single thing wrong with the writing or the illustrations; in my opinion, this book deserves a perfect rating.
Overall, Toni the Superhero by R.D. Base was delightful and easy to read with my niece. I would suggest this book to all families with young children, because it helps make learning to read more exciting and enjoyable for not just the kids, but for the adults as well. I’m looking forward to more books about Toni’s adventures in the future, and I know my niece is too!
