Forget everything you ever knew about dieting and brace yourself to explore the remarkable revelations in The God Food Diet by Miami Mike. As a successful real estate agent in Florida, Mike acknowledges that he does not give medical advice. The diet and accompanying tips in the book are a compilation of information gleaned through his personal study and research.

Mike cites a lifetime of personal concerns that mirror what many individuals experience. Excess weight can lead to high cholesterol, diabetes, hypertension, and other diseases. Why are we fat and sick? Mike proposes that we are killing ourselves by eating foods that harm us.

What is wrong with our food? Mike says that most products available in grocery stores are genetically modified, laden with dangerous additives, or potentially contaminated with deadly pathogens. The solution is to eat foods that are as close to nature as possible. The book reveals how and where to shop for safer foods. Naysayers sometimes say that it is too expensive to follow Miami Mike’s diet. He succinctly tells readers to “pay the farmer now or the doctor later.”

I like that Mike shares his website and social media resources to keep the diet information up to date. He also generously shares links to other internet and printed resources to help readers research the information he provides. He includes personal artwork, charts, graphs, and photographs, which add vitality, whimsy, and interest to his narrative.

The author repeats information from chapter to chapter, including photographs and the food pyramids. The author might consider upgrading the book by reducing the repetition while adding meal plans, weekly menus, and complementary recipes. This observation does not justify deducting any stars.

I did not notice any typographical or other editorial errors because the book is exceptionally well edited and professionally written. The author’s humor gives a campy vibe at the beginning of the book, but he settles down and makes his points. I am happy to rate this book 5 out of 5 stars for these reasons. I recommend The God Food Diet to adults who enjoy reading about the connection between food and health.
