This is an amazing story about kids that are not always seen but want better. At first I wasn't sure what to expect just from the title and the front of the book. Reading this was one of the best choices I have made in a while. It is a look into a group of orphans and looking to strive for education. It is well written and honestly at the end makes you want to stand up and make a change. The characters are well developed and you really start thinking of them as family by the end. You really go through it all with the kids in this book. There are so many parallels that people can relate to which makes the text more meaningful. A historical fiction book it really brings out what was happening, especially when it was the AIDS pandemic, especially in Africa. It also always discussion for how education is not always guaranteed in different countries. Highly recommend and honestly it would be a great partner read for parents and higher elementary/middle school kids. It would open up different discussions about cultures and can bring the outside world a bit closer.
