[Following is a volunteer review of "The Successful Business Startup Action Guide" by Husam S. AlSaleh.]
The Successful Business Startup Action Guide by Husam S. Alsaleh is a book that uses critical questions to build strategies that guide business launch and expansion. The core message centers on strategic decision-making, which Michael Porter describes through his famous statement, “The essence of strategy is choosing what not to do.” Alsaleh explains that business success requires entrepreneurs to select specific problems to solve beyond merely recognizing market opportunities. He demonstrates this principle by leading readers through market definition steps, industry dynamics analysis, and customer value creation.
I loved how practical this book was. Alsaleh shared his experiences, both successful and unsuccessful, to explain fundamental principles. He talked about his barbershop experience in Riyadh and used that to explain market needs. Using this, he explained how proper market research matters while showing why making assumptions about universal problems leads to risks. Alsaleh openly shared his mistakes as he demonstrated that failure is part of the journey to becoming a successful entrepreneur.
What I loved the most was how he straightforwardly presented his ideas. He presented theoretical models alongside concrete business examples, which makes this book both educational and applicable. Another thing that stood out to me was how he ensured readers would understand entrepreneurship from a human perspective. I say this because the author understood that business creation involves handling both emotional and social obstacles, which include employee relationship management and work-life balance maintenance. In fact, all the information in this book is crucial because it brings about the required success for both financial achievement and personal satisfaction.
There was nothing to dislike about this book. It is exceptional, and I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. It touches on points that one may overlook. For instance, he talked about how hard it was to sack employees that are underperforming. He gave an idea that could help with this situation, but for fear of giving spoilers, I will leave you to find out yourself when you get a copy of this book. Editing-wise, this book is perfect. If you are an entrepreneur or looking to become an entrepreneur, then make haste to get this book.
