Call Me Pomeroy is a fictional book about a man’s adventure and his quest to be famous. James Hanna, a former counselor in the Indiana Department of Corrections and recently retired from the San Francisco Probation Department, shares us a story of a man who dreams of becoming a star along with its adventure and the reality of the world we live in. Using his experience as a counselor, James Hanna is able to create a character in the form of Edward Beasly or commonly known as Pomeroy.

Pomeroy, an aspiring musician, is an optimistic, innocent man who believes that his songs will make the charts and that he will be famous someday. He goes from place to place; attending events that he thinks will make him appear on the news. Using his song as his only ticket to stardom, he will sing and let everyone around him hear his song. As a result, Pomeroy often makes his appearance on the news but instead of becoming famous he becomes infamous and was often sent to prison. His probationer would then save him and take him out of prison. Jessica Jimenez, Pomeroy’s probationary officer, thinks he is a fool and delusional and yet she always finds herself helping Pomeroy whenever he gets into trouble. She knows that even though Pomeroy is delusional, he is gifted, smart, and kind.

This book has hooked me up from the very first page. The way Pomeroy handled every situation with a positive outlook and optimism was unique. Once you start reading it would hard to stop. His perception of reality was different yet you can’t help but agree with the man. The words he used might be a little bit harsh but if you are going to think about it for a second what he said makes sense. Pomeroy got involved in a lot of demonstrators but he did it all to have an exposure in the news. People began to use him for their plans but he never bothered, all he wanted was to sing his song and make himself a fortune out of it. One of the things I like about Pomeroy was that once he set his mind on something he’ll push through with it no matter what. His determination and optimism led him to a series of events, yet because of those actions Pomeroy and his song became widely known.

This book gives laughter and entertainment from start to finish. It is so unique in story and in its main character that I cannot compare it to any book that I have red. The truth is that I can’t think of even a single thing to point out against this book. I have so much fun reading it that I have gone through it all day long. Pomeroy’s story was so interesting that you can’t help but read to know what is going to happen to him.

Call Me Pomeroy is a book worthy of being in your bookshelf. Not just because of its comedy and entertainment value but also because this book was able to show to its readers the reality of the world right now. I enjoyed reading the book, killing time in the process, and learning couple of things as well. I would definitely recommend this book to teenagers and adults. Pomeroy never gave me a dull moment that is why I am going to rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I assure you, you’ll be glad to have encountered this book.
