Review of No Sense Christmas Poems for Children

[Following is a volunteer review of "No Sense Christmas Poems for Children" by MJ Cousins.]
No Sense Christmas Poems for Children by MJ Cousins was a cute story filled with Christmas cheer. The book was filled with short poems with different themes. Some touched on telling the truth, some touched on counting your blessings, and some touched on being a good neighbor. All of them related to Christmas in some way, whether it talked about elves, Santa, candy canes, or Mrs. Claus. They were all unique and I was pleasantly surprised by the endings in several of them. The book had twenty-five poems, along with two bonus poems. Each one was easy to read and would be engaging for children of all ages.
Even though I typically don’t enjoy poetry, I would rate this book 5 stars out of 5. I only found one error in the book, so I was impressed with the editing of the poems. These poems were heartwarming and fun to read after the craziness of a busy holiday season. I can see myself reading these poems with my young children next Christmas, as a way to teach some lessons and experience joy. I thought this collection was enjoyable and would recommend it to others.
I particularly enjoyed the poem called “Magic Words for Christmas.” It was a creative idea to include all the holidays in the one poem and share some of the magic of Christmas in a new way. I also thought the poem titled “The Story of Mr. Claws and Mr. Claus” was a cute take on mistaken identity. It kind of reminded me of the story about the Grinch, but with the addition of incorrect mail. The only poem I did not enjoy was the “No Sense Christmas Rhymes” because it was meant to be interactive but I felt it fell a little flat. Overall, I really enjoyed reading this collection of poems.
