Unbalanced is a novel that has romance and fantasy combined in it. Courtney Shepard has done a remarkable job by writing a beautiful story that pulled me in when I read the prologue and got me curious on how it will end. It is a part of a series that I look forward to reading.

Asha has the powers of controlling fire and has started using her abilities to help those in need. But she hides her work from the world and doesn’t know what the people think about her. One day, she meets a doctor who volunteers to help her. She feels a strange pull towards him but refuses to acknowledge it. He helps her after she gives him permission to move freely around the camp she has set up and also lets him help her move the people residing in it, to another location. But in midst of all the work, she fails to realize that the doctor had a reason to approach her in the first place. He kidnaps her for those who sacrifice people like her who exercise powers of the nature.

The Order wants individuals like her dead to maintain the balance and have been doing so for as long as they can remember. Asha is one of the four who can handle the elements of the universe and has no idea that there are three more like her. They control other elements and can be destructive if they want. Will she be able to help the others and herself or will she get killed along with them?

The characters of the story are unique and so is the plot. I liked how the story revolves around the girls and how they cope up with the situations. I liked how all of them resembled and differed from each other at the same time. The bonding shown between the characters is beautifully written.

The scenes and dialogues were spot on and I was impressed by how vividly they were explained. While reading through the novel, I continued imagining the story as if I was a part of it, which I loved about it. Being a romance novel, anyone would think about a girl and a boy falling madly in love and living happily ever after but it was not the case in this book. It has male characters but they are in supporting role and are sometimes equal to the role of the female protagonists too. Everything is balanced in this novel, from the scenes to the plot to the characters to the ending, contradicting the title, which I found appealing.

There were no grammatical or spelling errors which was a bonus point for this book. Words, phrases or scenes weren’t repeated in the book which made it a nice read. It contains graphic scenes which are not cringe worthy at any point. There was nothing that I didn’t like about Unbalanced.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because of the perfection with which the author has written the novel. I would recommend this book to the romance and fantasy lovers because it will surely impress you. This is not a read for readers under the age of 18 because it has some graphic scenes that may not be appropriate for them.
