Review of Will of The Hill

[Following is a volunteer review of "Will of The Hill" by Marshall Cobb.]
Will of the Hill by Marshall Cobb is a children's book that follows young comic lover Will. This story is a cute book for younger audiences, and the author draws you into the story easily. Even though this book is recommended for ages nine to twelve, I still enjoyed the story. The author does a good job of making child-like problems seem so big.
Will, who has to take a bus with rocket engines attached to it to get to school every day, is your average nerdy boy. He likes his comics and his best friend, Dillion. He hates soap, and girls still have cooties. The characters were well-developed, and I laughed a lot with them.
Life seems terrible to Will like nothing would ever be the same again, when a classmate and nosey Nelly, Gertrude, finds out where he hides his comics and threatens to tell the teacher if he doesn't do what she says. His sudden easy life turns into blackmail, and he tries to solve his problems independently because he is warned he isn't allowed to tell his best friend.
Will is forced to solve his problems while trying not to get into further trouble with his parents or teacher, which is easier said than done when all Will wants is to read his comics and hang out with Dillion.
Can Will figure out a way to get his comics back? Can he outsmart Gertrude and make sure Mrs. Early doesn't give him more detention? You'll have to read to find out.
I recommend this book for any child's bookshelf. It's engaging and fun, full of adventure and lessons. It would make a good extended bedtime story or a good book for children just starting to read longer chapter books. The book was edited well, and I found no errors in my read-through. For all the reasons I listed above, I give this book five out of five stars.
