Michael Gorton's science fiction Tachyon Tunnel 2: The Daklin Empire turned into an exciting, suspense-filled thriller for me. Tachyon Tunnel 2 is the sequel to Tachyon Tunnel. The author includes a brief recap of the first book in his foreword in Tachyon Tunnel 2, and more details appear in the sequel. I liked this because it helped me to navigate more easily through the tachyon tunneling story in the sequel.

I enjoyed reading Michael Gorton's science fiction Tachyon Tunnel 2 enormously. The multiple threads and sub-stories are interwoven masterfully into a gripping story, connecting characters, science fiction, physics, time travel, philosophy, and romance. I liked that the technological details emerge through the characters' interactions, thoughts, conversations, and settings, so that I did not feel overwhelmed by the technology. Rather, the characters sprang to life more vividly, and their space exploration and fantastic discoveries turned into a riveting reading journey for me.

Tachyons are particles that travel faster than light. Alex Durant, creative physicist and engineer, is a problem-solver. He invents tachyon tunneling, which allows point-to-point faster-than-light time travel through space and time. His discovery is significant because it goes one step further than using tachyon tunnels solely for space travel. It's also faster and safer than worm technology.

Paula Campbell, a brilliant professor with a Nobel Prize in molecular biology, is Alex's longtime friend. In the first novel, Alex and Paula use tachyon tunneling to journey in their spacecraft Tranquillity to the planet EtaKatz in the constellation Cassiopeia. Zander is a computer genius on EtaKatz. When Alex and Paula return to Earth, Zander and his wife, molecular biologist Lyra, go with them. The story continues in Tachyon Tunnel 2. Back on Earth, in his Dallas warehouse lab, Alex and his team of extraordinary computer scientists work on a number of projects, particularly next-gen AI and sentient AIs.

On the planet EtaKatz, Alex learns about the powerful and ruthless Daklin Empire. The Daklin are far more advanced than humans and have ruled the Milky Galaxy for hundreds of millions of years, using advanced military technology and weapons to enforce their rule. Alex realizes Earth and humans must remain hidden from the Dakliin to continue to live peacefully and freely.

Alex's thoughts take a huge leap forward. He is intrigued by the Daklin Empire and curious about their origins. He is a problem solver, and there are mysteries about tachyon tunneling that he finds irresistibly challenging. Alex realizes he can use tachyon technology to travel to any point in the galaxy.

The story picks up pace and turns more intriguing and exciting. Alex prepares his Tranquillity team, made up of the extraordinary scientists Paula, Zander, Lyra, Mark, and Megan, and the AI Emily, for more challenging and dangerous space explorations. Using tachyon tunneling, they journey to the edge of the galaxy, and to their amazement, puzzlement, and shock, they find Pronimos, a planet with humans and cyber-robots, a human civilization far more advanced than their own Earth. Returning to Earth, Alex and his team prepare for an even more extensive and mind-boggling space journey: travel back in time to search for the origins of the Daklin, their history, and expansion into space.

I liked the character development in Tachyon Tunnel 2. I liked the scientific and, even more, the inner journey of transformation that Alex Durant goes through as a scientist, team leader, problem-solver, and in his personal life. He cares deeply about each of the Tranquillity team members, bringing out their exceptional scientific abilities and building the cohesion necessary for the team's survival in deep space.

I liked the character development of the individual team members: Paula, Zander, Lyra, Mark, and Megan. All are key characters with significant roles in the story. Their character development emerges in great depth, including individual chapters. I think the story was greatly enriched by their camaraderies, friendships, romance, heartbreak, loss, and healing, all of which are woven into the story, in different ways, moving, touching, and humorous.

The novel is exceptionally well-edited. I found very few errors.

I rate Michael Gorton's science fiction Tachyon Tunnel 2 5 out of 5 stars. I liked the multifaceted complexities of space exploration with tachyon tunneling, traveling through space and time. I liked the complex characters and the terrifying and suspenseful situations across space and time. This was a fascinating novel from start to finish.

I highly recommend Michael Gorton's science fiction Tachyon Tunnel 2 to readers who enjoy complex science fiction novels about space exploration, AI cutting-edge technology, philosophy, and ethics.
