[Following is a volunteer review of "Wellness on the Weekly" by Adrianne Lind.]
“Wellness on the Weekly” is a guide for “mindfulness, movement, and a whole lot less stress!” It is a book divided into chapters helping you through the year (52 weeks) on your journey to self-awareness. Each week, a new chapter gently coaches you, sometimes with small doses of self-deprecating wit. Sometimes the chapter is about small daily yoga exercises, step-by-step described, including resources such as relaxing music or instructional videos from yoga teachers, in case you are a more visual learner. Other times, the chapter can be about daily journaling. Again, step by step, the writer helps you start from just doodling or scribbling like a child to purposefully journaling, documenting your goals and progress. The author explains each step, the benefits you are gaining, and how this step is a little bit forward from the previous one last week. And very importantly, why and how journaling is interconnected with yoga. There are also quotes at the very end of each chapter, either from the author or a clipping from an encyclopedia. The text is easy to read, and the exercises are simple and basic so that everyone can start and be encouraged by the results. There are also funny remarks and a little bit of teasing to make your experience reading much more fun.
The book is very aesthetically pleasing, with beautiful paintings in every chapter, which makes the experience even more relaxing. There are extra resources and references towards the end of the book for when you are ready to continue your journey outside the book. There is also a chapter about the author and how yoga has helped her through her life, through her own hurdles.
The book is also edited to perfection, which is always a plus and makes reading so satisfying. I rate this book 5/5 stars.
