Freddy Finds a Friend by Charles W. Page, MD, and illustrated by Miroslav Muratov follows Freddy, a fly that was born without a wing; in its place is a stub. Because he could not fly like others, he was often laughed at and harassed. Freddy cried, whined, and felt sad because of this, wishing to find at least one friend who would not mock him because of his wing. His parents decided to do everything they could to help him, and so they found a creative solution to help him fly while also warning him of every danger he could find. But Freddy still dreamt of finding a real friend, a dream he never thought would be fulfilled when he least expected it. Who is Freddy’s new friend? How did they meet? Will Freddy be able to fly?

I loved the illustrations; they were so vivid, original, and cute. I am certain children will adore them as much as adults. The book teaches some valuable lessons about trust, friendship, and respect. I enjoyed that as much as Freddy was bullied, he always dreamt of having friends and realized his worth was not defined by his wings, which is something people with disabilities must deal with constantly.

There is nothing negative I can say about the book, nothing I believe should be improved. The book has been professionally edited and is completely free from errors. This is an amazing children’s book, and the story is lovely, valuable, and amazing. Because of everything I have said, I am happy to rate this book a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars. This is a short book that could be perfect as a bedtime story, or for children to read on their own.

I recommend this book to parents of children ten and younger, especially those who have met people with disabilities, so they realize they should not be afraid or mock them. I also recommend it to parents of children with disabilities so they can be inspired by Freddy. Teachers and psychologists could also add this book to share with their students or patients. While the book does mention God (the author writes faith-based books), I believe religion is not imposed and should not upset or offend anyone, and it is also a positive message, but I had to mention it as not every parent raises their child religiously or with Christian beliefs.
