Tony Jeton Selimi’s book, The Unfakeable Code, is a very helpful practical manual that addresses the human struggle of living by wearing masks or, you can say, adopting unreal personalities, which are carefully constructed identities we show our colleagues, our families, and the world at large in order to hide our insecurities, obtain people's approvals, and protect ourselves from judgment and rejection. Selimi explains that this way of life is the cause of our anxieties and our feelings of lack of fulfillment. As a solution to the struggle, the book presents a clear and structured journey, resting on five core principles aimed to help individuals remove these self-constructed masks and live as their true selves.

The book progresses to explain these five core principles chronologically. Under these, it talks about self-awareness, teaching that one should look past the surface of who they pretend to be and truly get to know who they are behind the masks, embracing both strengths and flaws. Building on this foundation of self-knowledge, the book further challenges the survival-based, scarcity mindsets that keep so many people stuck in a cycle of just getting by or just surviving, because this fosters life without purpose. In addition, the book explains how to master emotions, not by suppressing them, but by understanding them as an intelligent feedback system that can be utilized for guidance and protection. The book also explains how one can stop giving away their own power to others by looking for validation from those people but instead reclaiming their control from within themselves. Finally, the entire framework, which is aimed towards living an authentic and purposeful life, is anchored in the principle of leading with prudent and courageous love for oneself and others.

I like many aspects of this book. What I appreciate most about this book is the fact that the ideas are taught in a way they can be practicalized. Of course, I mean it is not a book that simply muses on the virtues of authenticity but, in addition to that, gives the tools and blueprint to actually achieve it. Also, how the concepts progress makes the journey easily achievable, as it provides a clear and contiguous path to follow rather than a collection of disconnected ideas, which can be very discouraging. The inclusion of questions and self-reflection exercises throughout the book is particularly elating.

I also appreciate how profoundly relatable this book is. I believe that this is because of the relatable tone of writing of the author, and it is also strengthened by the anecdotes that are included, which are from his own life journey, from a refugee of war to an internationally recognized coach, and from his work with many clients. These stories make the concepts tangible and, more importantly, remind one that the desire to be seen and loved for who one truly is is universal. Also, the diction that the author used is simple and straightforward, and his tone of writing is consistently that of a confident, empowering coach. The powerful affirmations felt overly repetitive to me at some points in the book, though this isn't a dislike for me particularly, but I felt that it is worth mentioning. My only dislike about the book is that it's not professionally edited, as I came across many grammatical errors.

For the reasons I've mentioned above, I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I recommend this book to anyone who has ever felt that they are playing a role rather than living a life or anyone who is feeling stuck, disconnected from their purpose, or even just tired of the exhausting effort of maintaining a facade, for indeed, the freedom of being your authentic self is more than worth the effort, and this book will help you achieve that.
