You cannot follow a Superhero you don't know much about. Toni the Superhero by R.D Base, gives you more information the Superhero kids are bound to fall in love with. The book does not focus on Toni's superhero powers, but rather the different things that Toni enjoys doing.
Everything about this book is for kids: the story, the colors, the pictures, the superhero costume. Kids will enjoy paging through this book and looking at all the different activities that are sketched so beautifully. As they read, they can 'picture' what it is that they see on the page. There are no difficult words in the book. They are all easily understandable.
This book is of course intended for kids who are just starting out or not even yet reading. The author even explains that it is meant to help kids with reading, so if your child is a bit more advanced they probably won't enjoy this book. They will want something with a bit more of a story-line and many more characters.
What I like about this book is the simplicity of it. It is perfect for kids who are learning to read. In this book, Toni is seen doing some great activities such as reading, cleaning, eating, and helping with chores around the house. This is the kind of superhero every parent should want their kids to be like! The world has many superheroes, but what makes Toni unique is that is he is a child himself. He is ordinary, and yet extraordinary.
As mentioned, the author did not use any difficult words. However, children are curious creatures by nature and they may have questions. This book with its colorful illustrations is bound to bring your child running to you, asking questions about what the boy is wearing (a superhero costume by the way), and or many other questions. Perhaps it would be best to put time aside so that you can read with your child. This way you can attend to any questions or comments they might have.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 because it is great for the age group it is intended for. It does exactly what the author intended to accomplish with this book, which is to help kids read. Furthermore, it is bound to get kids interested in reading more and that is something every parent wants. Parents, get this book for your child!
