This book subject could have been pulled out of any recent headline in any city across the globe right now. The subject matter is relevant to today's world. Having the most important day of a young Jewish boy's life destroyed in such a manner would be devastating to him, his family and the entire community. This book is a thriller, and it was absolutely a ride. The action and suspense in this book had me holding my breath more than once. The author has good insight into the legal world and the Jewish culture, which is obvious.
The multiple monologues of Jewish history were a little cumbersome, though (and felt a little "preachy"). And while I dislike a cliffhanger ending, I also dislike pat endings that seem like they've been wrapped up with a pretty bow. There is, in my opinion, a TOO perfect ending. This was one. Without spoiling the ending, I felt it was somewhat unbelievable.
Maybe the ending will "grease the skids" (a phrase used 6 times in this book) for the antagonist to come back in a later book and show us how he really feels.
