[Following is a volunteer review of "Out of the Ashes..One Man's Journey" by Daniel Ryan.]
Many have lost it all, wandering in frustration without an idea of any redemptive action. If you are going through hard times, you need to know that God is not done with you. Many have faced similar situations and come out of them transformed in the most incredible ways. One such person is Dan Ryan. I recommend you check out his book, "Out of the Ashes...One Man's Journey: The Spiritual Cholesterol Diet."
The turning point in the author's life begins with his hearing the "Inner Voice." This voice is God's Spirit speaking to us. Unfortunately, many of us are unable to hear this voice due to what the author labeled "spiritual cholesterol," a powerful metaphor, I would say. As Dan notes, the spiritual cholesterol can take the form of pride, lust, hatred, greed, or anger and can prevent us from hearing God's voice and spreading his message of love, harmony, and peace. The author has shared deep insights about spiritual rebirth.
I was impressed by Dan's powerful blend of the physical and the spiritual. He has a great way of relaying spiritual knowledge through familiar concepts. He also did a great job harnessing the discussion with relevant biblical passages. This made the lessons stick with me and broadened my knowledge of the "kingdom within" and "born again" messages of Jesus Christ.
Dan's writing is simple and warm, and the book was thoroughly edited. He is honest and bold, looking at how he freely shares his personal struggles. This is amazing because the awareness of our collective struggles may be the next push we need to embark on a journey of healing and restoration. The author's passion to help people rid themselves of spiritual cholesterol is evident.
The author has offered so much value within this short read. With nothing to complain about, I rate this book five out of five stars for its honest commentaries on personal struggles and spiritual awakening. I feel this book is better suited for Christians, especially considering the Bible verses and the acknowledgement of the power of God's spirit, love, and grace.
