In this memoir, Amy takes you through her childhood and into adulthood, where she is forced to confront her shortcomings. The reader learns about Amy's life as a child, and the different environments she grew up and adapted in. It really sets the tone for the entire book by showing how resilient Amy is and how she constantly made the best out of her situations.
However, her teenage years show the start of rebellion and poor decision-making, consistent with adolescent behaviors. Amy continues to acknowledge her train wreck of a self, and does eventually get through it. It’s this part in life where she learns being strong is also being able to realize you need help. She finds strength in family, faith, and love, and eventually turns her life around.
After all the trials she has already been through, she gets hit hard in adulthood and dealt a crap hand. She doesn’t give up and continues to be positive throughout her adult journey, while continuing to learn how to be humble and make the best out of situations.
She shows tremendous strength in writing about the manipulation of laws and guidelines by the Government, and her courage is inspiring. Her story in and above itself is inspiring. To see how she fell so low and came back to be so successful, just to have it essentially ripped out from under her again, is just truly amazing.
I can’t imagine having all of the different experiences and adventures that she has during her life. The inspiration that comes from Amy’s story is what makes it hard to not like parts of it. I found some areas to be redundant in information, where she repeated herself several times. This caused me to disengage a bit, and I found myself annoyed by it.
Other than that, I am rating this read a 4 out of 5, due to the inspiring nature of this life story, the non-existent typos, the inspiration to keep a positive outlook, and the education you receive about how businesses shouldn’t just “follow the leader” when making merchandise decisions.
