[Following is a volunteer review of "Unexpected Lessons From Professor Higgins" by Patti Smith.]
I really enjoyed reading Unexpected Lessons from Professor Higgins by Patti Smith. I was anxious to finish reading the whole book in its entirety, so this definitely speaks to how well the author portrayed events that many people can relate to in a serious yet sometimes comical manner. I would recommend this book to people who enjoy reading about how reflecting on certain interactions with someone or a series of events can help you understand more about your purpose in life.
I would give this a 5 star rating. The reason for this is because the author continuously shared real life experiences that they experienced and then always followed up with lessons that were learned because of their experience. Each time I read the lesson that the author learned from their personal experiences, it inspired me to apply that lesson to my life. It was a very calming and refreshing experience to reflect on how the lesson that the author learned could easily apply to my life. The author revealed the lessons that were learned in a very simple and matter of fact way, so it was very easy to understand and keep with me as I continue on this journey called life. What I also really enjoyed about this book is that the author referenced God a few different times, so this helped me to relate to the author's perspective even more since God plays a big part in my daily life.
The author shared many stories about familial relationships and how during challenging times, there can always be something positive to take away from it. As a soon to be mother, it was so soothing to read about how being flexible and resilient during challenging times throughout different stages of your life can ultimately change you in an incredible way. After reading this book, I feel more prepared of what motherhood could be like. The theme of the book is that although motherhood means providing for others and helping them grow, motherhood can also mean being impacted in an unexpected and powerful way.
