Today, cyberattacks and cybercrime are some of the biggest threats we face, happening silently through phones, computers, and the internet, and affecting everyone from individuals to businesses and even governments. That’s why cybersecurity is more important now than ever.

Cynthia and Dan: Cyber War by Dorothy May Mercer is a book that tells the journey of Cynthia as she navigates through her life as a private investigator for a senator, the cyber war attacks, and her love triangle with Sky and Dan. Cynthia shares her plan with her brother Glenn to go into cyber war to sabotage terrorist communications in real time. She finally gets to work with Glenn and two other students.

A drone incident has a magnitude effect on Cynthia’s life as she meets Sky, whom she eventually gets emotionally and sexually attached to. Ohh, I forgot to mention, she was already in a relationship with Dan, her loving boyfriend. Will Cynthia win in this cyber war? Will she choose Sky over Dan? And, she eventually gets pregnant. Who is the father? You can only satisfy your curiosity by getting the book.

The storyline is so coherent, it got me glued in trying to know what happened next; that’s how I got myself to the end of the story. I enjoyed the fact that the author didn’t waste time with unnecessary details, as everything was straight to the point. The editing is top-notch, too.

I sincerely feel the title is a bit misleading; I mean, it does not represent the full contents of the book. Dan is a part of this story, quite right, but not so involved as to form the title of the book. But then, that’s the choice of the author. I also didn’t like the ending of the story; I’m still left with unanswered questions. I will need part two.

I give this book a rating of 4 out of 5 stars; I only removed one star because of the aforementioned dislikes. People who have an interest in cyber war and those who like fast-paced books are the most likely to enjoy this book, and I recommend it to them.
