The Girl Who Knew DaVinci by Belle Ami is a time travel supernatural romance. The book takes place in three different eras: the present day, World War 2 era Italy, and Florence, Italy in the 1470’s. It is the first book in the Out of Time Series.

Angela Renatus is an art history intern at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles. She has been having nightmares since she started working at the Getty Museum six weeks ago. In addition, she has other difficulties with her job; Dr. Alberto Scordato, the museum director, has been making unwanted advances. Angela’s nightmares concern Leonardo DaVinci, Guiliano Medici, and Fioretta Gorini. Fortunately, Angela has an upcoming meeting with an investigator who is seeking her help in looking for a lost painting. His name is Alex Caine, and the painting might be an unknown DaVinci.

Sophia Caro is the WW2 era heroine. She works at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. She is in love with a German officer named Gerhard Jaeger. The Germans are bombing Florence. They plan to escape to Sophia’s family vineyard in Tuscany. Sophia is pregnant. Gerhard intends to carefully smuggle a painting out of the Uffizi.

Back in August 1475, Fioretta Gorini is an artist’s model for Leonardo DaVinci. Fioretta accompanies Leonardo to a party at the Medici Palazzo where she meets Guiliano Medici. By 1478, Fioretta is pregnant and secretly married to Guiliano. DaVinci painted a wedding portrait which was unacknowledged because the rest of the Medici family refused to accept the marriage.

In the present day, the German billionaire Max Jaeger wants to clear his uncle Gerhard’s name by finding the same unknown DaVinci painting. Max’s uncle, who had disappeared decades earlier, had written to his mother of an unknown Renaissance wedding portrait. The painting had been attributed to one of DaVinci’s students. However, Gerhard is convinced that the portrait is Leonardo’s work. Max has hired Alex Caine to find the painting. Scordato also wants the painting, and he is plotting evil against Alex and Angela. A previously undiscovered DaVinci would be worth millions of dollars.

What connects these three timelines? How are Alex and Angela connected to the ghosts of the past? Will Alex and Angela locate the painting? Read The Girl Who Knew DaVinci to find out.

The Girl Who Knew DaVinci is entertaining and outstandingly well-edited. It is an enjoyable way to kill a couple of hours. Since it is a series starter, I appreciate that the author wraps up the first plot before dangling hints about the next book. I like the mix of real history and romance with paranormal elements. However, The Girl Who Knew DaVinci is a steamy romance and is more appropriate for mature readers. Also, certain readers may dislike the supernatural components in the plot. In particular, the number of supernatural trances that Angela falls into strains belief. Overall, I give The Girl Who Knew DaVinci a 4 out of 5 rating.
