I thoroughly enjoyed reading Essential Advice for Buying Your First Home and Navigating Through the Mortgage Loan Process by Diana Donnelly. The author has many years of experience, and it is evident in the amount of detail included in every chapter. As someone hoping to buy my first home within the next few years, this book provided a wealth of information and will be a valuable resource when the time comes.
Essential Advice for Buying Your First Home and Navigating Through the Mortgage Loan Process was laid out very thoroughly and covered all aspects of buying a home for the first time. In the very beginning, the author outlined the objectives of this book, and then the author shared the author’s own work experience, which included several years of work with a mortgage company. After that, I really liked how the author started with the pros and cons of both renting and owning a home. The book covered topics I never thought about, such as considering the resale value of a home, and the types and styles of homes available. It was depressing to read about the related costs of purchasing a home because the list of things that the buyer has to pay for appears to be never-ending! This is why my husband and I are currently renting! On the other hand, the author shared about some government-sponsored loan options where the buyer would not need to pay as much for the down payment, such as for FDA loans, or not have to put anything down, in the case of USDA loans.
I would rate this book a 4 out of 5. It was very detailed, and I appreciated how the author covered all aspects of buying a home for the first time, from the initial stages of selecting what type of home to buy to moving in after the closing, and even how to pack for the move! However, there were several grammatical errors, which is why I am deducting one point. That being said, I recommend this book for any first-time homebuyer!
