REVIEW:

"Strong Heart" is a story of adventure, survival, wisdom, history in the wilderness taking place near Godkin Creek located in Olympic National Park in Washington State. The author captured the Indian folklore and their traditions. The characters are well-rounded and believable. The plot twists and turns and thickens as you read.

The story begins with William (nickname Walleye or ‘Eye for short), Myah and Tom packing to go into the woods where Tom’s father Bo-Bo is buried when they heard heavy pounding on the front door. William answered to find a woman and child standing before them soaking wet from the storm. To find out it was Ruth Tom’s ex-wife and a child to be about the age of twelve or thirteen. Ruth told Tom that this child is your granddaughter Sarah and that she had just found out a few days ago that it was Becky’s (now deceased), their daughter’s child. Ruth told Tom that Sarah’s step-father was in Europe and sent Sarah to them for the summer. She said that they had her for a few days and she thought that was enough. Now Tom could have her and put up with her drinking and attitude and the bad people she was hanging out with. With that said Ruth turned and left down the dirt driveway and never looked back.

Tom and Myra didn’t think it was a good idea to take Sarah on the camping trip. Tom protested saying the trip was not easy to schedule because this was the only time that ‘Eye, was off the ship and that was the only time he could get away from the tribe. They all agreed to take Sarah along.

A few days into the hike Sarah vanishes for a time and reappears; eight days later with a head full of stories and a connection with the land further than what any of them are familiar with in a place widespread with history and memories of the local Native American tribes. Tom, ‘Eye, Myra, and Sarah have more to discover that any of them can comprehend.

“Strong Heart” was very well written. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because I found it to be very well written and researched with no grammar, punctuation or spelling errors. Strong Heart is a very good read as that it keeps you wanting to turn the page to see what is going to happen next. I highly recommend this book.


SUMMARY:

"Strong Heart" is a story of three hikers that take a thirteen-year-old child named Sarah into the wilderness and all the adventures along the way. The author described each character as though you got to know them and were along with them on their adventure into the woods.

The author began working on ideas for "Strong Heart", his tale about the Olympic Mountains, the Pacific coast, and human origins long ago. In 2010 he got serious and began research. He hikes the Olympic Mountains whenever he is able. He continues to write in Ballard, Washington.
