Robot: A Deadly Love Story by Cathy Parker is a book that offers a blend of sci-fi suspense and emotional tension. In the traditional sense I really don't consider this a love story, but definitely a thriller. Be advised that while it might drag in the beginning it picks up in such a way you won't want to put it down. Touching on themes such as identity, autonomy, and obsession, the story revolves around Cassie Barr, a robotics mechanic whose unique talents become a double-edged sword when she's hired to repair Sam-an android whose evolving emotional intelligence leads to unexpected consequences.

Pacing is one of this book's strengths. The book moves swiftly, and the tension is tight, but unlike so many other books there's no use of gimmicks. Once you realize the stakes it escalates convincingly so. Cassie is put into morally complex situations. Parker's portrayal of Sam keeps you on edge and fascinated. This story has more personal consequences rather than broad action due to Cassie's boss and Cassie's family.

The writing flows smoothly and is easy to understand. There are a few grammatical errors, but not enough to distract from the reader experience.Spacing and formatting was the only thing that held me back from giving the book 5 stars.

All in all Cathy Parker has written a book that's gripping and memorable with strong character dynamics that keep you on the edge of your seat. I recommend this book for fans of science fiction and thriller.
