Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat is the seventh book in Serendipity Mystery Children series written by R.F Kristy. The author loves animals and from this I understand why she writes catchy books about animals. The book's main character is Inca - a Siberian cat.
Inca, the queen of kitties is a detective cat heading a detective agency called Inca and Company in London. Inca goes to Sri Lanka on vacation with her mom (her owner) and siblings. Coincidentally an ancient sword gets stolen from a local museum. This trip gives her a chance to explore her detective skills and lays an opportunity for her to solve the artifact theft mystery with the help of her friends; that's only if she can manage to solve the theft puzzle.
I loved that the book takes us on adventure to Sri Lanka and the cultural practices portrayed in the book. The personification did justice to the book. I also liked the way the author wrote the book from a cat's point of view. The colourful pictures brightened the moment and were also entertaining. Inca making new friends made the story interesting. The author does not only focus on the detective side but also on the adventure side therefore it's all work and all play.
The theme of teamwork is well portrayed in this book and it is also a major theme. Inca coordinates with members of her detective agency in finding the thieves. She also uses help from her newly made friends. This can be a lesson to kids to work together and may teach kids how to socialize.
The book is an easy read and the author succeeded in maintaining attention from the beginning to the end. The introduction and description of characters made me familiar with them and their individual personalities, this being my first read in the series.
What I didn't like about this book is that some picture illustrations are not in line with the events happening at that moment. This may be somehow misleading. There is also Inca's encounter with the python and the snake, this may create a tense moment for the kids and may give them nightmares when read to them as a bed time story.
Having said that, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because it has most merits required for a children's book. I also didn't find any punctuation or grammatical errors thus the book was professionally edited. I recommend this book to young kids since it will make them adore animals and encourage them to be adventurous. It will also teach children how to write their own diaries and journals. It's also a book that adults would love.
