Strong heart by Charlie Sheldon is an adventurous read revolving around a great deal of historical values laced with strength, survival and courage.
The plot starts off with a hiking team of three preparing to go camping for the sole purpose of completing an abandoned task that involved Tom and his grandfather's grave. The other members of the group include Tom's close friend, William, and William's grown daughter, Myra. Nothing prepares the party beforehand for the arrival of Tom's young granddaughter, Sarah, of whose existence he had known nothing about. Finally, although reluctantly, the decision is made to bring Sarah along on their camping trip.
From setting out to attend to a small but important duty, the group's initial plan takes an unexpected twist that comes with Sarah being with them. Their simple hiking adventure into the Olympic National park in Washington state changes into a defining point in each of their lives as Sarah disappears for more than a week and starts her own dream-like journey into another era. Her surreal dream, which she shares, and other unusual encounters she experienced raises questions for the others about theoretical historical legends and empirical scientific evidences that would affect their lives and beliefs in ways they never envisioned.
Charlie Sheldon uses this book to effectively convey to his audience a lot of his researched findings on ancestral pre-history and origins, especially centered on Native Americans and some other races finding their paths in the same said era. His characters are realistically introduced and their personas are consistent throughout the book. Their backgrounds as well were presented to the reader in good pace.
A little drawback I noticed is the overwhelming nature of the story. At first, I thought that it might have been because of personal unenthusiasm towards historical adventure. But then, as the plot developed, it was clear that indeed, it was a heavy read. This might be as a result of too much factual information and not as much cover storyline.
Nevertheless, I give Strong Heart 4 out of 4 stars because it was written with great skill and commendable attention to details. As for the editing, it was apparently professionally done, so that aspect was perfect.
The drawback I mentioned is a little glitch in the grand scale of things, hence it doesn't affect my overall rating because of the obvious reason that some people don't mind getting down with a heavy read, and it wouldn't detract from the story at all for them. If you fall into that category, I wholeheartedly recommend Strong Heart to you, as well as to all other adventure lovers.
