"The Prize" is written by Geoffrey M Cooper. He is a professor of biology at Boston University. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Miami in 1973. He is admired in his work with cellular growth control, and signal transduction. He is a scientist and academic administrator. Through his work he has become an author of "The Prize" and he has done a biology text, "The Cell".

"The Prize", is a very well written book about deceit, and betrayals in the medical field among scientist that are trying to find a treatment for Alzheimer's disease. Pam Weller, is one of the main characters who is trying to get tenure in Langmere University. To achieve this she has to come up with a successful treatment. She is working with a postdoc, Holly Singer and, the both of them are working together to discover an Alzheimer's treatment. Eric Prescott who is a scientist at the Institute for Advanced Neuroscience is also trying to discover a treatment and so it is a race for the Nobel Prize. Holly betrays Pam by working with Eric to claim all the credit when the treatment is discovered.

Such a suspenseful and thrilling read. I could not put this book down. The plot keeps you interested with the villain characters in which you even have to like them. This is not a "Who done it", but the twist and turns had me gasping on every page. I have to say this is one of my favorite books I have ever read. I love how each character is portrayed so you know what each character looks like and who they are. I thought I knew how it would end but so many twists and turns changed my thoughts, that it will keep you guessing. So exciting I know everyone will feel the way I do about "The Prize".

When Holly back stabs Pam, Pam is very determined to get to the bottom of this plot against her. Her friend Jake believes her and helps her try to find the truth. He knows Pam is not in this for only the Nobel Prize, but for the benefit of an Alzheimer's treatment. Jake recognizes that Holly is in this to get total recognition and to throw Pam under the bus. Jake's skills as a private investigator comes in very handy. He knows the ins and outs of how criminals think. This is an action-pack book!

"The Prize",is written with chapters that show the months when everything has taken place which is almost a year and a half. An easy read with small chapters and creatively written. I love the way Geoffrey Cooper made every transition from one place to another. You always know why and where each character is in the book. I love this book and the suspense of how it is possible that people can be swayed to do the ultimate wrong. I would love to read another book by Geoffrey Cooper that follows the characters. I rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars, because of the way it captivated my interest.

Nice review! I especially liked the idea of showing who the antagonist is and how he works from the very start, and then showing how justice is brought to him. Eric's character actually shows us how a criminal mind works, don't you think? I have also reviewed this book and found it absolutely unputdownable!

I couldn't put this book down. I read this whole book in one evening when I saw it as book of the day. It is definitely action packed despite knowing who the good guys and bad guys are right away. The only down side I noted is that some of the things Jake is able to help Pam with were a little too convenient. I really enjoyed it though and thought Pam was a truly admirable character.
