Heartaches 2 is the second book of the Bad Boy Vibes series by H.M. Irwing. It is a romance novel whose main characters, Rafe and Anna, are both broken souls. It focuses on their pain, love, and attempts to get over the demons in their terrible past.

As a romance novel fan, I have to say I was not as drawn to this book as I wanted to be initially, however, the feeling went away as the book progressed. I liked the fact that they knew each other’s deepest and darkest secrets and loved each other regardless. I loved how devoted they were to each other, however in parts, I felt like it was a little bit too much. Sometimes I felt that the love they had for each other was too on the nose. I found myself thinking 'OK, I get it, you're in love. What now?’ Normally it wouldn't bother me so much, however, I felt like it was too drawn out and a lot of the issues could have been dealt with in one go.

I loved the way the author explains the horrifying events that led both Anna and Rafe to their current situation. So for persons who had not read the previous book, they wouldn't be lost reading this one. I am a firm believer in every book should be able to stand on its own, and this book did not disappoint.

Even though this is a very dark story, there were moments in the book when I was totally delighted by the characters' sense of humor 'you mean bedminton?' is an example. The secondary characters were very well developed and I enjoyed their presence in the story. I also liked the fact that there were a few surprises and plot twists in the book.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars, only because I felt it redeemed itself. Whatever terrible feelings I harbored for the book were dispelled the more I read. Once you get passed the first few chapters, the book actually turns into a real page-turner. The storyline began to flow better and was not so obsessed with Anna and Rafe.

This book is sexually explicit and may have some triggers for people with delicate sensibilities. As such I would only recommend this book to people who can manage very steamy sex scenes, and mentions or descriptions of rape and abuse.
