Toni the Superhero is a children’s book written by R.D. Base. The book tells us about what Toni likes doing. He may be a superhero but this young man shows us that he, too, enjoys doing usual, everyday activities. The focus of this book isn’t about Toni’s supernatural powers. Instead, it highlights his normal hobbies like playing and reading. As an introductory book to a series of books about Toni’s adventures, it very well describes the young superhero we will be looking forward reading about.
Children usually look up to superheroes. They love watching movies of superheroes saving the day and also playing with their favorite superhero action figures. Having a child hero as the main character for this book is a wise choice. The young readers will easily relate to Toni and realize that his deeds are attainable by normal kids too.
Even though the illustration of Toni as a kid with special abilities is very obvious with his vivid costume, this book shows us his other side. It’s very interesting how the plot started with activities that young people typically love doing and then slowly diverted into house chores which are normally less fun for them. The author wants the young folks to be able to easily relate themselves to the main character. In that way, they will instill in their minds that cleaning the house can also be fun and lending a helping hand can make them a hero too.
This is an easy-to-read kind of book for toddlers. It contains colorful images that were well-illustrated by Debbie Hefke. The book is just right for children who are starting to explore reading since it contains simple words. While learning to read, kids will also be educated about ethics and good morals. They will be inspired to be like Toni who enjoys playing around and helping with house tasks too. I think the book could have a second part introduction wherein it may include Toni going to school and many more activities in a child’s life. Nonetheless, the book is very entertaining as it is.
I give this book 4 out of 4 stars. This book is intended for children ages 0 – 4. This can serve as an introductory to reading. The use of simple words and short sentences will allow them to easily comprehend the contents of each page they turn. Every mom will surely find delight in reading about this superhero to their little ones.
