[Following is a volunteer review of "Toni the Superhero" by R.D. Base.]

Are you looking for a good children's book for your children? Do you need a full illustrated book with simple English words for your children to learn how to read? Do you want a good book for your small children with good lessons to learn? If the above questions are all 'yes', then Toni the Superhero book is for you to read together with your small kids from the ages of 3 to 5 years old.

This book is about what Toni will do at his leisure time when he is not doing superhero's works. It is like what a celebrity does when he or she is at his or her leisure time. It is a good exposure for the small children to learn what Toni does during his leisure time including helping his mother doing house chores.

I am captivated at the front cover illustrated Toni in different skin colour. This is good to show to the small children that everyone can be a Superhero regardless of their skin colours and it is not limited to certain people only.

I like how full illustrated this book is with simple English words for the targeted readers. The author has done a great job on publishing this book with the small children's best interest at heart.

However, there are two words that I don't think are simple enough for the small children such as 'rescue' and 'terrific'. It seems that these two words are advanced for the small children. On the bright side, these two words can also serves as early exposure for them in learning synonyms, for example the word 'rescue' is synonym to the word 'safe'.

There are two subtle moral lessons here that I liked the most. The first one is when Toni is spending his time at the swimming pool with his friends who appeared to be in diverse ethnics. This illustration indicated that the author is attempting to promote to the small children about living in unity and in peace with multi ethnics people, and to be open minded about them instead of being racist. I am grateful that I have my own fair share of early exposure to the multi ethnics people, and I am privileged to have friends who are in multi ethnics as I am attracted to different things.

Another subtle moral lesson is Toni is illustrated to be eating good food like fruits and vegetables. This is a good way of encouraging children to eat good food to have a healthy body, and as a way to educate the small children that one of the things a Superhero must do to maintain being a Superhero is to eat good food.

This book is well-edited and the words are properly constructed for the small children in learning to read. It is clearly manifested to me that the author wants the best for the small children born in this 21st century.

I am pleased to rate this book 4 out of 4 stars for the full illustration with simple words although with the 2 advanced words but still appropriately placed for the targeted readers, for the well-edited work, the subtle moral lessons that the author is trying to convey, and together with good habits illustrated by Toni with hope that the small children may learn from this character, Toni.

I never noticed Toni's friends are from different ethnics. That makes the book even better. I enjoyed your review!

To be honest, I didn't notice it at first. It was the 9-year-old Korean boy who noticed this when I made him to read with me while waiting for his parents to pick him up from the tuition centre where I am working now. Thank you for your time in reading and commenting to my review.

Even though I am not the target audience of this book, I appreciate the author for this masterpiece, and your detailed review as well.

Most superhero books and movies talks only about the amazing powers of superheroes. I think this book breaks the stereotype by discussing about the works that little Tony is doing when he is not doing superhero work. Nice review.

Toni's diet that includes fruits and vegetables is really a good way of encouraging children to eat them too. I like your review.

Yeah that's what I like the most from this book. Kudos to the author for breaking the stereotype in writing a book about a superhero. Thanks for your commenting.

I really like your review - it sounds like this book is a lovely book for small children. And great to see the superhero is of a different ethnicity than the heroes usually promoted.

Nice review of this children's book which seems to be well illustrated and sound very much interesting to the children, Also the Tony character is well developed.

I do have both a three-year-old and five-year-old and I'm Christian. Based on your review, this appears to be a book that I would enjoy reading to my kids! I really like that the character on the front of the book is a minority as well. I actually didn't even notice until you pointed it out, but I think it's a great message to send to the younger generation. Thank you for your comments.
