The Book A Bloody Book by Chris Bowen was a very interesting one. At first you don't understand where the name A Bloody Book comes from, but it comes and it comes deep.

The story is about Maxx. A boy who is writing about his experience as a 13-year-old in reading hell, as he calls it. He starts of stating this book is written because of an assignment he never turned in. He goes on to explain how the kids that are in reading hell are the kids that are trouble makers or have home issues. The teachers have kind of given up on these children. Teachers come and go, but there is one teacher that made an impact on Maxx and the other students, Mr. Foxx. Mr. Foxx never gave up on them. He helped them reconnect to why school is important and helped the students get passed their home problems to begin to love school again.

As I was reading this book, I noticed how relatable the writer was. Everything he was saying made you feel like you were having a conversation in person. What I loved about this book was the fact that (at times) it can be very relatable to what is going on in the world today. Some kids have bad homes lives and can't focus on the good of schooling. Some kids get bullied by other students or as in this book some teachers. Maxx writes about a few of these scenarios and how he helped out in order to make the ones being bullied feel better. Getting in trouble for Maxx was his was of not dealing with the emotions of what his life was like.

All Maxx wanted in the entire book or in his life was to live a normal life. A life where the parents cared about him and his baby sister. A life where his dad didn't drink and his mom didn't work all the time. A life where they were happy and had food to eat. A life worth living. A lot of things happen in this book, which is where the blood part comes in, that really effect the life of Maxx and his sister. In the end things still don't go the way Maxx was hoping. Life isn't always fair, but make the most of what you are given. Good or bad things will happen in life, it's all about how you handle it.

I give this book a 4 out of 4. It really touched me as a reader and was a shock at the end of the book. It was not what I was expecting and was very interesting to read. This book makes you a little more thankful for what you have. It teaches you to appreciate what cards you are given and to live life to it's fullest. In the end Maxx may not have gotten his happy ending he was expecting but he did get his A on the assignment he never turned in.
