You draw a dragon with wings that are brighter than emeralds, shimmering opalescent scales, and eyes that blaze azure flames. You shut out the world and put your heart into this painting. Suddenly, the magnificent dragon comes to life. Welcome to The World of Ato. The World of Ato is a wonderful story with a charismatic and fun main character that will take you on a magical adventure.
Ato is a girl who lives on her own. Her parents have been gone on a trip for a very long time, and Ato fears that they will not come back. So, she busies herself with making art. Ato soon becomes a renowned and popular artist in her kingdom, and she often goes on adventures with her best friend, Reed. Ato wants to find inspiration for her art and share it with the world. But when she gets separated from Reed and finds herself in a dark temple, Ato’s life changes completely. Instead of living in her world, she creates it.
The World of Ato is a book immersed in art and creation. Ato’s whole life is dependant on art, and what she can do with it. In all of the drawings Ato creates and the adventures she goes on, perspective can change everything easily. Through going to new lands and meeting new people, Ato realizes that if you want to see the whole picture, you must change your perspective. Where there is light, there is always darkness. Where there is happiness, there is always sadness. There are always going to be two sides to a situation, and it is important to see both. Ato also realizes the importance of perspective through making her art. No two people will be able to see the same thing in what she creates, but that is the beauty of it. Ato discovers these ideas little by little through her life and her art.
I have thoroughly enjoyed The World of Ato. This book took me on a great adventure and the story is very creative. I especially love the setting of the world that Ato creates. There are so many different ways to view one place, and each city and destination is a surprise. The characters in the book are never boring, and Patrick Borosky describes everything with such detail that you are experiencing everything along with Ato.
The World of Ato is a great book for children, especially elementary to middle schoolers. But this book can also be enjoyed by adults. The themes in this book have a much deeper meaning than what’s on the surface, such as why the happy people of Ato’s land choose to ignore those who are in need. No matter what age, everyone can get something out of the The World of Ato. The storytelling is excellent, and it will keep you pulled in until the end. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars, and it is definitely worth a read.
