One Way Or Another is a romance novel by Mary J. Williams. It is the first volume in her sisters quartet series.
Calder Benedict was a young, beautiful and vibrant woman. Born into the affluence of the Benedict family, one would imagine that she and her sisters, Andi, Bryce and Destry would live without any care in the world. But life wasn’t all cupcakes and candies for the Benedict girls as they had to contend with their own share of loneliness and betrayals from their absentee parents and men who cared about nothing but their wealth alike. The sisters came to realize that the only ones they could trust in their lives were themselves and one another.
The story narrated the unforgettable love adventure, between Calder Benedict and her unexpected boyfriend. Calder who had given up on ever finding a true love had an accidental meeting with someone, whom she considered arrogant with a “holier than thou” disposition at their first meeting. A meeting which proved difficult for both to forget and later led to several other event that took place down the line. Has she finally found what she was unknowingly, desperately searching for in a man?
I love the elegant writing of the author. I’ll confess that she knew how to keep her readers entertained. Even when it seemed that the story was dragging, I still could not put the book down. It was so professionally written, a true work of art I'll commend it to be. It was funny at some points and emotional at others. I like that it didn't just narrate a love life between two people but started with the difficulties that goes with being a woman in men’s world, especially one from an affluent family. The prejudices that you get to endure from people who tend to form an opinion about you long before they've even met you. An opinion Calder and her sisters kept fighting to change and convince others that there's so much more to them than being spoilt rich brats. Also evident against the girls was their own grandfather's stand on female children, like he declared through his Will that a girl child, whom, in his view isn't as useful as a male child, may not become the heir to his vast estate. The story demonstrated a true understanding of reality in the society. Also I like that the spark between Calder and Adam Stone took gradual steps before it blossomed. It made it more realistic.
Although a good story, it isn't without its faults. I felt the writer spent too much time describing each event that the whole point of it was almost getting lost. She would later pick up where she left off but it made the story line kind of slow and dragging, so that an impatient person might even give up on it. Other than that, it was a great novel.
The book was professionally edited and I recommend it to every adult who wants to keep hopes of true love alive in their heart. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I didn't rate it a 3 star, because the editing is perfect and the storyline is great. Altogether it is still an excellent piece.
