Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat by R.F. Kristi, is the seventh stand-alone children’s book in The Inca Book Series. The novel is written in the form of a diary, which tells the story of Inca, who goes on vacation with her family to Sri Lanka. While she and her family spend the holidays in Sri Lanka, she discovers that a valuable antique sword has been stolen from the main museum in the city. Inca is a Siberian Detective Kitty who heads a detective team called Inca & Company, and of course, she and her team get involved.
I love this book because I can see myself as a child enjoying this book. It's not overly complicated and can be read by children ages 6 to 11, or the parents could read the book for the ones who can't yet read (under 6 years of age). I believe that this book is the perfect gift for children who love to read.
I believe this novel could foster a love for animals, and get children curious about other cultures. I’m sure the children will have many questions about Sri Lanka or other countries after this book; thus allowing them to broaden their horizons. I also liked the fact that there were a lot of positive messages used in the story and it highlights the value of friendship and teamwork, which can be used as a positive model for children.
I liked how her own interest in the mystery and the way the story was told, were able to peak my interest and keep me interested. I was just as invested in solving the puzzle as she and her team were. Even though it was a mystery story, it didn’t have any scary bits which I think is perfect for a kids’ book. I also liked that the story was told in the first person, and we are able to see her personality come to life.
It is very colourful and filled with pictures, which children will love. It's fun and exciting for even adults who will in cases with small children, need to read the book. There were no obvious errors noticed in this book and I loved just how well formatted it was. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because although it is a book for children, it was still a very good read. This book would make a perfect addition to a children's library.
